SAMPLE ACTIVITIES
ELEMENTARY FRENCH
➡️
In this course, we use the textbook Savoir dire. Cours de phonétique et de prononciation by Diane Dansereau. However, as is often the case with instructional textbooks, the repetitive structure of the chapters may limit student engagement, requiring the integration of supplementary materials to counterbalance this monotony. Furthermore, the textbook lacks certain critical aspects of French phonetics and phonology that I deem essential for a more comprehensive understanding of the language. To address these gaps, I have incorporated additional pedagogical strategies, including le Français par le dialogue by G. Faure and A. di Cristo and le Pont sonore by Paul Pimsleur, as well as a series of original activities that I have developed. These original supplemental resources are designed to deepen students' comprehension of contemporary spoken French, emphasizing the sociolinguistic variability that exists both within the Francophone world and among individual speakers. Above are examples of these activities, which aim to enrich learners' phonological and sociolinguistic awareness while also broadening their cultural knowledge.
